![]() ![]() It's a pity that the art design falters badly in this entry, especially with the dishwater-dull Paris sections of the game. ![]() Onimusha 3 is definitely the gameplay and graphics peak of the series - the production levels are utterly gorgeous and the relegation of ranged attacks to R1+X instead of a separate equippable main weapon is practically revolutionary. It's a pity that the gift-giving system is clunky and opaque and basically requires an FAQ, and it's a pity that there's no new game+ to speak of (which would go a long way toward adding incentive to engage in multiple playthroughs, unlocking all of the bracelets, et cetera). The combat is massively improved by charge and up-down-square attacks. Onimusha 2 is artistically gorgeous and super-confident, with much higher blockbuster-level production values. Onimusha 1 is easily the least ambitious game in the series but also (because it doesn't aim so high) the most flawless, in that (outside of its VERY short length and the instakill water puzzle) there aren't really any serious flaws to point to. It's hard to say, since it's a stellar series but hasn't yet had a perfect or definitive entry. ![]()
