![]() ![]() If the game plays the same way as the tutorial, then properly formed spear walls are deadly vs cavalry and cavalry charges obliterate samurai archers. It's hard to draw any conclusions since it's set up purely to show the rock-paper-scissors of spear-horse-sword/bow. Didn't have time to mess with different settings. It kills my computer, especially in combat (2GB ram, ~2 ghz core2duo, GF-9600GT) at medium detail, 1080p). The demo includes the campaign map as well as battles (previous demos were just battles), so that kind of explains the size For gameplay purposes I understand the reasoning, but they should have shown them in looser formations like how they depicted the barbarians or the Alamanni. They were looser and gave their comrades room to swing. They didn't fight in tight box formations like the Romans and hoplites did. Also I don't like how Creative Assembly depicts Japanese combat. I generally don't care about the Sengoku period Rome is where it's at. Plus it's harder to concentrate fire with muskets due to line of fire and spacing of musket lines, while concentrating arrow fire from 8+ longbows on one cohort was easy in the older games. Also I found uphill advantages aren't as great when it's musket vs musket, compared to hoplites on the high ground. They'd usually rout and my cavalry would chase after them. Once I established a line with three Line Infantry, I'd immediately flank with about eight or nine Line Infantry to form an octagonal shape wrapping around the enemy. I agree with the boredom part somewhat, but I found it one of the more active TW games out there. So I'm seeing a lot of potential for Shogun 2, if there is a return to more varied and interesting combat combined with a better diplomatic and trade system. I did feel like the trade and other game mechanics were better fleshed out than in previous games. Have two groups of guys fire at each other across a field until one group breaks. ![]() Felt like it was set in basically the most boring of all possible periods for tactical conflict. ![]() I was however disappointed by the combat. I just got a new rig and redownloaded it from Steam last night and I'm looking forward to firing it up again. I bought E:TW but didn't play much because my old computer couldn't handle it well. Medieval II is probably my favorite game of all time. ![]()
